U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the White House for discussions in February.
Speaking aboard Air Force One on his return to Joint Base Andrews from Florida on Monday (January 27, 2025), Trump said, “I had a long conversation with him this morning. He is likely to visit the White House next month, probably February. We share a very good relationship with India.”
The President shared these remarks in response to questions about his recent phone call with Mr. Modi. According to Trump, immigration was a key topic of discussion, and he expressed confidence that India would “do what is right when it comes to taking back illegal immigrants.”
In addition to immigration, the upcoming meeting is likely to include discussions on trade relations, defence cooperation, and regional security issues. Strengthening economic ties between the U.S. and India could be high on the agenda, particularly in the areas of technology, energy, and manufacturing.
Regional security is expected to be another key topic, with a focus on Indo-Pacific stability and counter-terrorism efforts. The leaders might also address climate change initiatives, supply chain diversification, and collaborations in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology.
This announcement comes against the backdrop of a strong rapport between the two leaders. During Trump’s first term, his last international trip was to India. The two leaders have previously addressed massive crowds together at events in Houston in September 2019 and Ahmedabad in February 2020.
Prime Minister Modi was also one of the first world leaders to speak with Trump following his surprising electoral victory in November 2024.
