The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed India’s support for the recently announced ceasefire and hostage-release agreement between Israel and Hamas. The MEA voiced hope that this development would facilitate sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.
“We welcome the announcement of the agreement for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. We hope this will lead to a safe and sustained supply of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. We have consistently called for the release of all hostages, ceasefire, and a return to a path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the statement read.
The agreement, mediated by Qatar and the United States, was revealed on Wednesday, with the ceasefire set to commence on Sunday. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani confirmed that both sides in the Gaza conflict had reached an agreement, calling it a crucial step toward peace.
Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden described the deal as a hard-fought victory, highlighting the intense negotiations that paved the way for the ceasefire. He expressed optimism that this could mark the beginning of a more lasting resolution to the crisis.
Meanwhile, Hamas credited the ceasefire to the resilience of the Palestinian people and the determination of Gaza’s resistance.
India’s consistent calls for a diplomatic resolution, release of hostages, and uninterrupted humanitarian efforts align with its broader appeal for peace and stability in the region.
