Prashant Kishore, Jan Suraaj Chief, noted political strategist and activist, was arrested at Gandhi Maidan, Bihar, today morning while staging a fast unto death . The protest was aimed at pressing for action against the alleged BPSC exam paper leak.
The peaceful demonstration escalated when police forcibly intervened, arresting Kishore while dispersing a large gathering of students and supporters who had come to show solidarity. Eyewitnesses reported instances of manhandling as students were evicted from Gandhi Maidan by police, leading to chaotic scenes. Videos circulating on social media show students chanting slogans and resisting the authorities’ efforts before being removed from the site.
Kishore, who had been on hunger strike for three days, was later taken to AIIMS Hospital for a medical check-up due to concerns about his health. Before his arrest, he emphasized the importance of justice for students, demanding the reconduct of tainted examinations .
The arrest and police action have sparked widespread criticism from opposition leaders, civil society groups, and student organizations. “Using force against peaceful protesters, especially students, is unacceptable. Kishore’s demands reflect the concerns of the common people, and the government must address them,” said a senior opposition leader.
As Kishore remains under observation at AIIMS, his supporters and student groups have vowed to intensify their agitation, demanding his release and urgent action on the issues he raised.
