Kazan, October 23, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan. The leaders discussed key issues, focusing on improving India-China relations and regional stability.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the recent agreement to disengage and resolve border issues stemming from 2020. He emphasized the importance of properly managing differences without disrupting peace and tranquility. Both leaders agreed to expedite the meeting of Special Representatives to oversee peace in the border areas and explore a fair resolution to the boundary question. Additionally, dialogue mechanisms involving Foreign Ministers and officials will be utilized to stabilize and rebuild bilateral ties.
The two leaders acknowledged that stable relations between India and China, the world’s two largest nations, are crucial for regional and global peace. They also highlighted the importance of progressing relations with a long-term, strategic perspective, enhancing communication, and addressing developmental challenges together. The meeting reinforced the commitment to fostering a multi-polar Asia and world order.
