BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi has emerged victorious in the Patparganj constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections, securing a significant win as his party gained victory in Delhi. Negi, who previously gained attention for his role in restricting meat shop operations during Navratri in 2023, won by a considerable margin.
According to data from the Election Commission of India, Negi secured 74,060 votes, winning with a lead of 28,072 votes over his closest contender, Avadh Ojha of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who received 45,988 votes. Congress’ Anil Kumar trailed in third place with 16,549 votes.
Negi first gained public recognition when, as a councillor, he advocated for the closure of meat shops in Vinod Nagar during the Navratri festival in 2023. A video showing him requesting shop owners to shut down their businesses during the religious observance had sparked a debate on religious sentiments and business rights. Negi later stated, “Our intention was never to enforce a closure but to respect the religious beliefs of devotees.”
Before his political career, Negi was actively involved in community service and local governance. He started as a grassroots worker for the BJP, rising through the ranks due to his strong connections with the public and his advocacy for traditional values. His leadership in organizing religious and cultural events in East Delhi earned him recognition, eventually leading to his election as a municipal councillor. His tenure saw multiple initiatives focused on local infrastructure development and public welfare schemes.
Adding to his prominence, a recent viral video showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly acknowledging Negi’s influence. During an election rally in Delhi, Negi attempted to touch the Prime Minister’s feet in reverence, to which PM Modi responded by bowing down in return, touching Negi’s feet thrice. The moment resonated widely among supporters and added to the BJP leader’s public appeal.
With this victory, Negi is set to play a crucial role in BJP’s governance in the national capital, as the party strengthens its foothold in Delhi’s political landscape.
