Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is on the road to recovery following a shocking knife attack at his Bandra residence on January 16, 2025. Doctors at Lilavati Hospital, where the 54-year-old actor underwent emergency surgery, have reported significant improvement in his condition. Khan is walking, on a normal diet, and expected to be discharged within two to three days.
“We are observing his progress, and he is doing excellently well according to our expectations. If his recovery continues smoothly, we will discharge him in two to three days,” said Dr. Nitin Dange, a neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital. Dr. Dange also confirmed that Khan had sustained three injuries: two on his hand and one near the neck, with the most critical injury located in the spine. Emergency surgery successfully removed the sharp object and repaired the spinal damage.
The actor was attacked in the early hours of Thursday in his 12th-floor apartment at the Satguru Sharan building during what police suspect was a robbery attempt.
In a significant breakthrough, the Mumbai Police arrested the accused, identified as Rajesh Patil, a 32-year-old resident of Thane, on Friday evening. The arrest was made after an intensive manhunt involving over 30 teams. Patil, a habitual offender with a history of burglaries, was tracked down through CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.
According to the police, Patil gained access to Khan’s apartment under the guise of a service worker before attempting the robbery. When confronted by Khan, Patil attacked him with a sharp knife before fleeing the scene. Officers recovered the weapon used in the attack and some stolen items during the arrest. Police Commissioner Rajesh Singh praised the swift action of the teams involved, stating, “This arrest brings relief to the victim’s family and ensures justice is served swiftly.”
Khan’s mother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, was seen leaving the hospital after visiting her son, expressing cautious optimism about his recovery. His wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, described the incident as an “incredibly challenging day for our family.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through Bollywood and the actor’s fanbase.
