Chennai and Nearby Districts Brace for More Rainfall
The regional meteorological office in Chennai has predicted further rainfall across several regions, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur districts, as well as Puducherry.
School Closures Due to Heavy Rain
Authorities have declared school holidays in multiple districts due to the heavy downpour on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Districts such as Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupatur, Karur, and Thoothukudi have closed schools for the day.
In Tiruvannamalai district, all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, remain closed, while in Tirunelveli, a holiday has been announced for classes 1 to 5 only, as per Collector K.P. Karthikeyan.

- Adiramapattinam & Vriddhachalam: 7 cm each
- Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Poonamallee & Red Hills: 6 cm each
- Nungambakkam, Chennai: 5 cm
